Hey guys I’ve been a member of this site for a while and follow it regularly. I’ve been offshore a few times but here lately I’m really catching an itch to get out there much more. Unfortunately being with NCPD ’ SWAT team as you can imagine I stay way too busy at work and need a get away. I want to be knowledgeable about offshore fishing so I would love any advice. how do you select the right live or artificial bait? How do you know where to fish and what do you look for with regards to color or temperature change? I would love to pick yalls ear if yall don’t mind and thanks in advance.
What are you targeting? What size boat you have?
“Good things come to those who bait”

Easiest way for someone new on this site or wanting information to get is to search different threads. Go back through offshore discussion and search tabs for stuff you are looking for. Go through reports from the last year or two and read every report and you will learn a ton! Much more info has been discussed on this site already then you will get from this thread. Good luck
Thanks guys and yea I hear those cobras put up a fight! I have been reading a good bit of the posts lately and slowly picking up some good info but some stuff may be a little over my head lol. Like how do you correlate temp and current to finding fish? Warmer water is better?

With your schedule look try to hitch a ride with someone and learn while being out there. As for locations, there are water proof charts sold at the local tackle shops that have the GPS locations of reefs and areas where you can troll for fish. I realize many people have their own secret numbers as well. Getting offshore to fish is all about having the time to go when the weather allows you to. One can plan for weeks to go, but the weather will be the factor. The chances of if being good for offshore the day you plan on going is slim. I have found it is a quick decision a day or tow before and scrambling to find people who can take off work to go. Get offshore learn some techniques and areas and then begin worrying about currents and water temp for targeting. Good luck!
