New years eve/day offshore

Anybody ever done any good trolling or bottom fishing offshore off our coast over new years eve or day? Gonna be down there and wondering how it is historically.

Yes,caught a wahoo,dolphin and a blackinfin,on new yrs day 7-8 yrs ago

Grouper fishing is good, have whacked them trolling as well, but now that we talked about the fishing, it will be blowing 30kts.

Great time of year. Like everyone else said - just always battling the weather. Monster Hoo’s normally and if you find some whales the blackfin bite is unreal

Our best fishing day for 2016 was on New Years Eve. We had overcast and breezy conditions but nothing too rough. Plenty of keeper grouper and Black Sea bass. Also nice red snapper that are still swimming. I am not up on the local lingo for the various reefs but were at the PA-30 reef on the DNR map, around 12 miles off Edisto. I am planning to be there this year, which of course guarantees bad weather and lots of watching football. Good luck.

If you want to check out PA-30 as suggested, it’s known as the Edisto 60. Not a bad ride out if the weather cooperates. If you go to the SCDNR website and click through to the artificial reef section, you can look it up and get the coordinates of each of the “piles” and ships in the area. When I go there, I usually start at The Page and work my way around.
