New to this kayak fishing, but already hooked on it…just not hooking many fish. Have been a die hard freshwater fly fisher for years but new to this salt water stuff.
Bought a WS Ride 135 and even bought a couple of spinning rods.
Biggest problem is I’ve yet to catch much more than 12 to 18 sharks one trout, but no reds as of yet. Live off the Coosaw river on Lucy creek. Been trying the oyster beds on the incoming and out going tide but still no luck. Any advice would be apprecitated and suggestions as to different spots.
Would not mind finding some other yak fishers to go out with a some time also.
Thanks for the Help
this is a pretty broad topic…might include a little more information as to what your using, etc. but help yourself: read the last 100 threads in the kayak fishing forum, inshore reports too

best advise I can think of is be patient. If you keep trying different areas, you are bound to find the reds. Float with the tide or wind and keep your cork within a few inches from the grass.
Might try that lagoon at Hunting island, it holds fish. I will be down at the end of September for a week and would like some company fishing.

well if memory serves me right, Lucy Creek has alot of docks on it. It’s been kinda Hot. If it were me, early one mornin’ (or late one evenin’ 6-7pm) when the tide was high, I’d paddle up stream. Rig a live shrimp on a Cajun Thunder or a DOA Shrimp on a Cajun Thunder (suspended 12-18", with just enough weight to sink the shrimp). When the tide flips and starts receding, just drift, lettin’ the tide pull you back down stream, I’d cast to all those docks. I think you might just find a Red or two hindin’ under those docks to avoid the sun.

There are several dock on Lucy creek, but no luck around them yet. Have tried a rig that looks like the Cajun Thunder with mud minnows, finger mullet and shrimp. Caught the one trout on a jig with the spinning rod.
Have been riding the tide into the deep grass and fishing the pools but not much luck there. Just been wondering if the water if too hot and this fall will be better fishing.
Would enjoy having someone to fish with in Sept. just drop me a line as it gets closer.

A few weeks back SharKayak caught a huge 40" Red. This last Sat., we were “up the creek” & had Reds chasing and swirlin’ around lures, but didn’t catch any. SharKayak caught a nice 22" Trout. I caught a decent Black Drum. We noticed loads of shrimp in the creeks, but there’s no size to them yet. Sounds like your doin’ as good as the rest of the Beaufort guys. Be patient they’ll come.
