Hey guys, I am completely new to kinkfishing but want to get into it. If I am after quantity not size, is it a fair bet that I can troll some 3 1/2 drone spoons (maybe 2 on a #3 planer and then 2 up top)over live bottom and wrecks and have a chance at picking up some snakes and maybe teens? Also, what depth should I be hitting this time of year?
Second question, I don’t have a downrigger so can I attach a planer when livebaiting or will the baits not get down deep? Also, can I live bait with 6-8 inch mullet if I can’t find any large menhaden or should I sabiki some bait? One last question, if I don’t use a planer for live baiting and have no downrigger, should I still try live baiting but just have the baits up top?
Sorry about all the questions and hope that I can get into some kings this summer. Thanks for the help.
I’ll leave the first 2 questions to the pros; the last question I use egg sinkers above the swivel when no downriggers, 1-3oz. depending on current, and how deep the fish are. PS: Run your baits straight down under your boat and watch your depthfinder to see the depth they are running, run your baits about 5ft. above the fish, not the bait pods.

Thanks for the reply Mac Daddy!
Sure you can live bait a mullet or a bluefish, spanish, or pinfish. Biggest king on my boat came on a live pinfish freelined - 28 lbs.
Second biggest on a live 8 inch bluefish freelined - 25 ish (did not weigh). Had a 12 inch mullet swimming beside the bluefish, which didn’t get touched.
FUN!
Can anyone tell me what depth live bottom or reefs i should be targeting? Thanks.
No magic depth right now, kings are from the beach to the ledge. I would recommend following the fishing reports closely. A lot do not tell where they were fishing but some do. Use google to find fishing reports from other sources as well.
Best of luck,
Blue
Thanks for the responses Blue…will let y’all know if we catch any.
