Will be in N. Mrytle next week and was wondering where to go. Plan on doing some surf fishing. Looked at the map and hog inlet is pretty close. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Also bait of choice. Haven’t surf fished in years and looking forward to it. Thanks in advance.

I’d take that 14’ Alumnicraft and fish Cherry Grove for flounder. It’s a good area and some bigger ones are showing up lately. Not a surf fisherman, but have spent some time in Cherry Grove/Hoggs Inlet. It’s easily accessible at the Northern Point of the island and should be good for Flounder, Red Drum, Blues, and the occasional Spanish Macks right now. The fishing dock at the Cherry Grove boat landing at 53rd Ave N. can also be good. If you have a cast net, mullet should be getting big enough to catch off the bar. Live mud minnows, fresh shrimp and squid should be available at Perry’s Seafood on Sea Mountain Hwy. If you get any blue crabs (5" minimum) they are good quartered on a Carolina Rig for bigger Red Drum. Bait size live shrimp are sometimes hard to come by but will should be good fished under a float. Normally good folks at Boulineau’s Hardware will tell you what’s biting and how to get on 'em. Good luck, and report back here when you catch them.
