The crew left the dock at 7:00am Sunday (6/24) and headed off Morris Island for bait. 1 cast did it and we were off for Chas 60. Once there we put put 4 ballyhoo out and trolled. About 10 minutes into the troll, rod went off, boated a 15 lb dolphin. Never thought we could get one this close to shore. 45 minutes later we put a live bait down, same place. I handed Coca cola Bob a sandwich and he handed the rod, with live bait, to Mr. Russ. About 3 mintes later Russ yells, holy _hit, I have something big. Had to clear the other rods, and 20 minutes later we had a real nice Cobia beside the boat. Cadillac grabbed the gaff, but once he saw the fish he said, “why don’t we release it?”. What??? He stuck it and we got it in the boat. It went nuts and Coca Cola ended up with the gaff stuck into his leg…OUCH! I went up fron and helped get the fish in the box…time for beers! here’s the pic of the 64lb Cobia:
I am glad someone takes my advice from time to time…I am sure you had to deal with more feelings than that cobia had, Fred…and you know what I mean…good job on that fish…Also, I have a question for everyone onboard…Is this the year of the GEORGE???..Again, nice one Fred. Tight lines, Robert.
Congrats!!! You beat me to him. I’ve been feeding him for a while now. He was almost like a pet…but I planned to do exactly what you did…take him home and eat him. Great job, guys! Nice pic, too.
do they eat good that big? that is a beast. one of the hardest fish to subdue in the boat. bought a billy club right after i caught my first cobia. they never stop squirming until you knock them on the head. super strong fish. did she eat a live menhaden?
