Fished friday out of beaufort with Tennent, Matt and Ross on the Happy Dog 2, left at 2:30 am and headed towards Edisto Banks. Plan was to start there and troll towards the Deli. Landed three pretty nice dolphin early and the bite quit around 8:30. Nothing for an hour and then bam, big hit starts screaming line out on the starboard side. Never saw the fish but assumed it was a big wahoo. Ross fought it for around 20 minutes and got back about 300 yards of line, got under the boat and shook the hook. Oh well, that’s fishing.
Picked at the dolphin for a few hours with no steady bite until around 12:30 we passed by a big clump of carpet or insulation. All lines go down and end up landing four dolphin, all gaphers. Passed by a few more times with similar success and then they were gone. Trolled around for another couple hours and then headed home. Ocean slicked out for a very smooth ride home. Also saw 2 whales and a 9-10 foot hammerhead.
Water temp was around 73 to 74. Caught most of the fish on pink/white squitches. Ended up keeping 18 dolphin between 10 and 20 lbs. No other fish caught. Sorry no pics, all 4 of us forgot the cameras.
