Nice day.. Sat

Finally, made it out for a few hours for some saltwater fishing. Fished out of Remleys at daylight. Got some bait, few manheddan, couple finger mullet, pinfish.(High Tide about 10:30) Tried a new spot in a creek used to have a lot of luck in a couple years ago. Ended up with 4 reds (2 well over slot)one of the reds on a blue crab i dragged in, and 3 very nice trout, kept one to go with the two reds for dinner. Never fished for reds with top-water, usually just trout. But on my way out I saw something crush some bait along a mud bank between some oysters. I ended up having these huge Redfish EXPLODING on my lure 3x’s and they missed it every time, just knocked it in the air. Talk about a Rush… I was out of time for the day but I definitely have a new strategy when i get out next time…try to upload some pics

Welcome. Nice report.

Store those topwaters away. Far away. In your attic. At your storage mini warehouse. Far away.

If you catch a few of those on a topwater you’ll be ruint.

Opti: Get in here and back me up. Help me help Bassn

It’s true. Stop trying for the reds. It’s physically impossible for one to be hooked on top. BTW where was this spot???

bassn, you’re a good sport.

I’m a newbie to saltwater topwater spotttailredfishchannelbass fishing so don’t believe a word i say. their mouth is pointed down. they aint set up to eat topwaters. but eat em they will. the strikes I’ve had were like somebody punched a hole in the water. or flushed a toilet [tell him GA]. fast. violent. addictive.

like flushing an airplane toilet, dude. makes me feel like the first time i saw a deer step out on the edge of the field and i actually had a loaded centerfire rifle in hand. all shaky and part of something bigger. different strike than when the trout are 2 feet in the air after nose-clobbering that thing, but it’s all just awesome.

and since PeaPs asked for help: Bassn, how about take that triton back to clark’s hill where it belongs and throw those plugs at some stripers

bassn, ya we are just funning ya! Its like throwing the whole dam toilet in the water usually! Go catch em and post a pic when you do!

definitely. i love a report like this with some tough-skinned senses of humor. and btw, i hear they really are tearing it up at clarks hill lately. i’m relatively new to topwater, and have never done it in fresh.

also a serious note, there was some discussion last week about redfish straightening/breaking trebles on their topwaters. i have had well over-slot fish bend stock spook hooks out a few times trying to horse them away from nasty structure- if you’re out along the grass you should be able to get those big fish by letting them play a little more. see below for a couple good tips if you do want to upgrade to stronger saltwater trebles.

I agree on the Trebles, Already upgraded. I have been doing that for a few years now, for Large mouth and Stripers… . I keep hearing clarkshill, funny but the Bass Club i’m in has been taking a trip to ClarksHill and Russell for about 6 years straight now,we usually spend the week at a lodge in McCormick. headed to lake greenwood this year though, so any of Ya’lls “Great freshwater Advice would be AppReCiAtEd”
Not exactly a newbi to Saltwater but, i could definitely learn A LOT more about artificial and Winter red/trout fishing.
Any way can’t wait to get out soon
