Nice redfish

Been watching the baitfish and shrimp start to show up in the creek off the upper Wando, so decided to head out.

Baitfish and shrimp are still too small, so grabbed a package of Walmart cut mullet out of the freezer and baited a hook.

Much to my surprise, fishing off the bottom, I got a massive strike and held on.

The Spot tail ran for the grass, but after ten minutes I brought him in.

Beautiful fish, about a dozen spots, and the fight nearly killed the old guy (him). I pulled the hook and placed him back in the Wando hoping he’d swim off. After floating around for about five minutes, he came to life, and darted back to the bottom.

Fished the spot for about an hour, with no other hits, so decided to move on.

Wow, nice one. I don’t think I have ever caught a red with more than 2 spots.

What a pretty fish!

Nice work.

Sir, not trying to be rude but you need to learn to revive those fish and don’t just turn them loose to float around and maybe die.

What makes you think I didnt try and revive him? In fact, I spent half as much time doing that as catching him.

I can’t…

Fish to live.

This statement could suggest that you did not actively try to revive the fish. Thanks for taking the time to revive.

Hold the fish by the tail and pull him back and forth thus having water wash through the gills. The fish will pull away when strong enough.

The point of my above post is for those that are curious on how to revive a fish correctly.

Belly up means they can die, taken by a shark or flipper.

30 belly compressions and 2 breaths in between…the breaths are optional now.,

Nice fish! Did the frozen mullet stay on your hook decent? I’ve always been iffy about that frozen stuff.

Cot the head and the tail off and hook the backbone. It stays on the hook well.

What size tackle were you using? Did the fight last a legit 10 min? That is a long time

Glad someone caught something!

Give a man a fish and he will eat for the day.
Teach a man to fish and he’ll keep bait in the refrigerator
