Niece & her cuzzes sharking

My soon to be college bound niece was in town from Illinois last week so the kids and I took her fishing. We hoped to put her on redfish in the early afternoon, then have dinner on the water, then catch some shark. We were 2 for 3.

Started on the reds on both sides of low. Missed a couple hits, but mostly a bust. Time was runnign short, so we gave up and enjoyed a nice meal at Cal Dreaming.

After dinner, headed out for sharks. Had a little better luck. Caught one nice one she got to fight for about 10 minutes, had another come unhooked, and her and Megan doubled up on some pups to close out the fishing.

All shark bit on squid. None went for mullet.

Then took a little stroll on Morris Island and called it a day! Steph was great on the boat, helping anchor and such like a pro! Just wish we could have put her on more fish! We told her she had an open invite for her spring breaks from SEMO!

Any SEMO grads? Give her a shout out!

Hooked up!

Battling into the setting sun! Water was ROUGH!

Illini girl’s first shark!

Weak, WEAK, shark snarl!

Steph and Meg on the double pup hook up!

Morris Island - all to ourselves!

Wish we’d had another day to hit the reds. Weatherman said calm, and we blew all over the place! Go figure!

All the more reason for an awesome niece to come back to Charleston!

Despite the lack of reds, looks like a fun day was had by all. Hope to be back that way soon, in Myrtle Beach right now, wishing I was in Charleston.

Nice work Vince. The weather folks have been pretty close with the precipitation but not so much on the wind. Glad you guys had a good day anyway.

I sit in the calm water close to there. But thanks for thinking of me.

Did you “grill…” those sharks?

Vinman, you sure do a great job of spreading the wealth and joy of fishing. Keep it up!

Thanks, JI. Fishing is cool, but putting someone on their first BIG fish is even cooler. I just wish I could have put about a 28" redfish on her rod. Nothing like it!

My niece went back the next morning and was texting “are my pics up yet!!!” so she could show her friends back in Illinois. Tipped my hand where I caught them because the shot is so pretty. There was only one shark left there, so I figured it wouldn’t matter anyway!
