Night Fishing Trout

Just catching on to this thread…
I have a headlight mounted in a styrofoam “cap” that floats it pointed straight down. hooks to a car battery. Would that work and what kind of area would one want? Deep? Shallow?

I’d love to Mr Joe. Just keep me in touch

I’m a high class redneck.

Fishing is a delusion entirely surrounded by liars in pfgs and buffs.

It’s that time again… I know where I am going

So I gave this a shot. Borrowed a green light off a dude in my fishing club and set it up on the dock on the Wando. First night I barely attracted any bait fish. The tide was just ripping past the dock. I tried it again a few nights later when I could put it in closer to the bottom of the tide. Attracted some bait fish and some needle fish. Nothing much more beyond that. I’m guessing that you really need to have the lights out there on a regular basis so you can condition the fish to come to your particular dock. Did end up catching a red and a trout the second night, but not near the light.

The way we used to do it was with locomotive headlights connected to a generator. Set up to shine about 30-40 ft out from the dock right after sundown. Go back inside for an hour or two, then come back and start fishing. Cast beyond the lit area, then reel the baiit back into the lit area. BAM!

If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.
