Personally, I try to stay away from the towers`for fear I might ever fall in the water.
My next door neighbor has a cousin, twice removed, that knew a guy who had a friend with a son that was a diver back in the days when the lake was just being flooded. They called him in one day to do some work out near the towers and he wasn’t down long before coming up and jumping back on the boat. Pulled off all his gear, slammed it on floor of the boat and swore, " I ain’t never going back in that lake!!! There’s catfish down there the size of Volkswagons!!!

Funny you say that because the divers at the locks in pittsburgh say the same exact thing, even Volkswagen. Probably a great place for a giant cat to live, feeding on the stripers as they all die when released.

It seems like everywhere I’ve lived, that had a fair sized lake, there have always been tales of huge “Volkswagon” sized catfish in the deep waters near the dam. No one has ever personally seen one, but all knew of a brother of a friend’s wifes uncle, who knew a guy down the street whose best friend’s son’s shop teacher, dove in the lake, saw these monsters and never went diving in the lake again.

I would never do such a thing.
All I’m sayin’ is why hasn’t anyone ever pulled one of those bad boys up? I mean put a big hook in a dead goat, a big ol elephant liver, or one of the pesky neighborhood juvenile delinquents a turkey or something, tied to a cable on an electric winch and yank one up from the deep. Catfish fry for the whole community.

2 shorts for the evening with my 5 and 3 yr old. Quit messing with trolling rigs and went with herring on free lines and downlines on a nice hump in the middle of the lake. Wind blowing us all over made it difficutlt to stay in one place. Tried to anchor and never could get the thing to hold or bite the bottom. Atleast we got 2 tight lines so the kids could see some action.
