I sure hope it heats up soon. I am camping on Dreher next week and would love to spend those nights with the ole green light out. Might have to catch cats instead.
Anyone been out lately?

I think all the cold fronts and water temp swings mixed the fish up a bit. This week is pretty consistent and hot. I think the temps are going to go up and drive the fish down a bit. I think the night bite will pick up if it hasn’t already. I was out of town so I haven’t gone in 1.5 weeks, I’m starting to get the shakes.

they were busting bait on top this morning down by the dam…

If you’ve had fun catching fish on the transom bait, you are welcome…
I’ve spent about 85% of my life’s wages on fishing, the rest I just wasted…
If even a few fish are able to be caught on topwater early in the morning and a few in the lights at night I will be a happy camper! I am beyond getting the shakes. I haven’t even caught a fish in 8 months. And prior to that I was catching something about everyday.
It’s all good though. My new little girl sure has brought me a joy lately that can’t be put into words.
I should be out on the water next week tuesday, wed., and thursday night if anyone is out and wants to relay info. I will probably leave Dreher area and run to midlake. Around Spence or maybe even into the big pool. Unless I can get some tips of decent areas to target near the gap.

On another note, does anyone know a local store that carries the Abu Garcia power handles? I am thinking about switching to these on all of my live bait rods and didn’t want to have to order them.

So where would be the best place to get a light? what power, kind etc… I have been wanting to try this since we cant buy bait on lake wateree and I could catch bait, fish some at night and be there with bait for the morning bite as well. works for me.

I use the 4’ light.
Richard at Lake World sells them I believe.

A much cheaper approach is a 12v light bulb from camping world or wally world and screw it into a clamp on shop light. Hook to its own battery point it straight down and that will draw them up as well. All for prob 12-15$

Sure hope it heats up in other ways. Was really encouraged by Fogman’s recent report, but then we had yesterday. Saw so many fish in 40-50 foot water in Ballentine that we should have caught a hundred, big ones, but they weren’t interested. Got one 24 inch and thought we had a really good one that turned out to be a 20 incher that was foul hooked. Checked out our deep cuts and saw nothing going on. Maybe it was the moon, holiday or just the darn fronts. Hopefully things will level out.
I use that type of light for my work light on the boat. I just turn it on when I really need to attend to a fish, or re-rig something.
I was going to go with those for the bait as well, but I got a deal on a hydro for $100, and figured by the time I had $50 in home made lights, I could have something that I knew worked really well for a little more. Plus the green glow really sets the mood.

Just to add…if you go this route, get 12v CFL bulbs. They cost more, but use about 25% the power of a standard 12v bulb with the same lumens. Doubt Wally has any, but Campers World does.
Also, Academy Sports (maybe Sportsman’s Warehouse?) has some cheap submersible led lights that should work fine this time of year…about $20 I think

If not going offshore I plan to be there as well this Friday evening. Its going to be crowded like mid summer it sounds like.

That’s when a good depth finder comes into play and u go set up on your own personal hump. That way u don’t have to listen to redneck Billy get drunk and holler about that 24" (10#'s to him) fish he caught last summer fish right next to the tower he is tied up to…lol
