last year i ran into a couple guys at bushy park that were headed out in the middle of the night to fish for reds. seeing as things have been a little slow at my ole honey hole as of late and i just dont get a lot of free time during the day i was thinking maybe a night trip. i was wondering if any of you guys ever tried it? i picked up some glow in the dark D.O.A jerk baits and thought it might be fun to give them a try. with the full moon coming up on the 12th and not sure if i want to go running around out at copahee by myself at night i was wondering if someone would like to give it a try and join me??? if the reds are a bust in the wee hours i could bring the shark rod and some bait and we could try our luck at catching some toothy critters. here are a few pics from the last few times out and was wondering if anyone knows what this red coral looking thing is that i found the other day. tight lines… TD
I don’t know why, but Copahee by myself at night gave me the heebie jeebies. I’ve fished the Stono, Wando and a few other spots at night, no spooky feeling, but for some reason Copahee freaked me out.
Boat drinks, Waitress I need 2 more boat drinks!
I could see Copahee being a little creepy at night. I can imagine the distant (or not too distant) splashes and wondering what it was. Dark out there I bet.

I have been out pre dawn in light fog and it definitely had that Ichabod Crane kinda feel to it LOL! I would really like to try this and hope some one is willing to join me. I have a GPS to nav in and out and am going to strap a L E D lantern to the bow of my yak for lighting. high tide friday night is at 9pm low at 2am. would like to launch at 8ish and paddle all the way out to the end of my spot and then fish all the way back to the creek in time to pull out before dead low. it will be a full moon and having fished copahee at least 40 or 50 times in the last year or so i know my way around pretty good.( plus GPS ) I like to plan these things out pretty well and not just go out there half cocked hoping for the best. I have never fished for flounder and might like to give that a try as well. TD
I’d personally go somewhere else. For the purpose of dock light trout fishing. Go somewhere with a multitude of docks, and fish for reds with the backup of fishing lights for trout and reds!

I love top water fishing this time of year is very productive
4am till sun gets up over the tree line 2hrs either side of low tide
Can’t beat it
Copahee is great but much darker than most locations and not many lights to guide you back in to the landing

how’d it go??? I fished copahee that morning and got some bites. Only caught 2 sharks though. No reds in the boat
I skipped the night thing for lack of a willing partner. so i went out at 2pm and fished till dark. i put out my chum box with a redfish filet and a cut up speck in it and chummed up a black tip that was probably about 60 to 80lbs i would say he was about 5 1/2 to 6 feet long! had my chum box about 10 feet from the side of my yak when he came up and rolled on it, had my bait about 20 feet pasted the box. as soon as i saw him i knew he was WAY more than i wanted to deal with so i tried to pick my bait up out of the water but i was to late. he hit it and ran about 150 yards and made two big jumps before i finally grabbed the spool and broke him off. it was a very action packed 60 seconds thats for sure! that was the only shark i saw and ended the day with three small reds a bunch of trout and two ladyfish, all in all not a bad day. would still like to make a night trip if i could find some one to come along. tight lines TD
Let me know next time you want to go. I got some big tackle to pull in that shark if you want.
redfish and trout for chum… facepalm…
