I stress attempt, we went out around seven with 2 doz shrimp, hit up some docks and some oyster beds, and creek mouths that usually produce fish and nothing… oh well we really went out to tear up the trout on the fly under some dock lights. By the way it was really nice meeting everyone at the lunch wednesday good to put faces to names. Stretch got me fired up about this whole night light trout thing wil his report a few weeks ago. Anywhoo Had my buddy turn on his flood lights and by the time we got there it was dark and there was bait everywhere. loud too. I was throwing a top water fly and my buddy was throwing a glow DOA …NOthing… I switched to a white clouser and he put his under a popping cork and we set up the girls on the boat with live FM on the bottom. needless to say we satyed til 10 and caught two toy sharks I was upset… but it was a fun night. Stertch you need to come show me how its done, The lights looked really good, and brought lots of bait This spot is a strictly high tide spot for me and it was low so that is my excuse… also the ladies on board might have made the sea jealous…

I hit some dock lights with the 6wt and a friend last night and we did OK, but it was a slow night for trout. Not real sure why.

ya seemed a little slow all night. Quick question do you usually throw near the light but right outside in the dark, on the edge of the light, or right in the middle of it??

pay attention to where you see the majority of strikes on the surface and you’ll have a good idea of where to put the fly.

Don’t get me started on trout under the lights, my shoulder still has a twinge in it. So, has it been any better? Any “just after you left” stuff?

Buttt, you did learn how to lay down your backcast and nobody else I know can do this at 2am. Does that mean I am old?

floats seemed a little loud and seemed to turn the bite off when we were night fishing the other night. Free lined DOAs and gummy minnow flies caught everything. Cast in the edge of the light, under the light, on the dock and drop it in, whatever it takes. just make sure to let it sink for a few seconds
strip…strip…FISH ON!
When I was a kid growing up in Bluffton, SC., we used to slay the trout in the fall at night. My parents and I would go down to our dock and you could hear the trout smashing the glass minnow that were on the surface. The weapon of choice was a cane pole with just enough line to reach the water; about 10 or 12 ft. The lure was a white pork rind, I seem to remember Uncle Josh was the brand name. Anyway, we would always slam the specks at night. This was in the late 50s-early 60s. Lots more fish around in those days. I can still smell the spanish moss burning in the smudge pot to ward off the gnats…
