Long time troller. First post. Need some help. I can’t find on the schematics where the two vacuum tubes go on the starboard Side-bottom of throttle body intake 225hpdi .At the bottom of the intake manifolds there are 2 hose nipples where vacuume hose goes.l one to VST and one to silencer.im trying to understand the physics of it. Does it matter if the upper one goes to the “t” connector on top of VST . The other goes to black silencer but which nipple. There are 2…both port bottom.
Is the vacuum pressure pulling on something to open the VST
What nipple does the other go on. I got THREE nipples and only 2 hands. Please tell me I don’t need to clarify. If you know the motor, you should be able to tack what I’m talking about… I never thought nipples and hose would be such a pain.
Thanks in advance. I have a lot more ?s. I
Today I took my VST tank off. Cleaned High Pressure screen. Pump ohmd and pump out correct psi. I have one vacuum hose from the lower left throttle body connected to “T” atop VST Tant, and the other tube plugged into to top nipple on silencer. I see smoke so its makin oil. I am getting overheat alarm on muffs. I have a infared gun but don’t want to get it hot if I don’t have to. I am unfamiliar with this motor and pray water jackets are good, poppets, therms etc. I am going to pop them, would you? or would you run it in the water first.
I just “stole” an immaculate White 22 Edgewater 225 v76 hpdi. Mint Condition
So is there anyone who runs a saltwater series II and is familiar with these motors. I am reading things about o2 sensor cleaning, pop - it valves, stuck thermostats etc. etc. I hear its common for motors to get hot under water hose. I assume that’s why they use tanks hugh. I just want to give it the ole once over, before I take her offshore. I have really been learning as much as I can, I want to be able to fix it 30 miles from a cold beer! Mine is the2-stroke 76 not the ox66. she sits on a 22 Edgewater
Hey Chris V! You have a great rep on this site. I have read a lot of your stuff! I had no idea I would get a response from such a well respected Yamahamian. But maybe I stated it wrong. I said “Mine is the2-stroke 76 (degree) hpdi not the 2s ox66.” Apparently they are the 76 has a 3.1 Ltr. Those pop-its are fun to get too!. Replaced thermos, lp pumps, high pressure screen etc. ebay has the lp pumps for 25$ a pop. Unfortunately Its the motor I have to work with right now. I installed a sweet Racor 10 micron upstream. I got a kicker bracket. I would kill for 2s 9.9hp or 15hp… if someone sees one for a good price let me know. I striper fish and that would be great in Santee Cooper and Lanier. The 9.9/15 2 stroke Evinrude, Johnson, or Yamaha… its the first motor I learned to work on.
Chris V, is the equipment for a water pressure test expensive. v225 hpdi swII 76deg The vst is the old one byt the way
P-K, hanks for your input. I think if you are a DIYer and really stay on top of your motors, they aren’t so bad. When I ran charters 20 years ago I remember them peeing mud, sleeping in pluff mud with one by my side (lol) etc. It never failed in 6 years of 150 days a year fishing. I would love a $23,000 four stroke.
CAN I BORROW 20 grand? I’ll take you fishing and mail you a check monthly. Please make sure its fly by wire as well.
Okay. Just put 40 gallons in and she ran great. I am getting hot at idle. Im going to shoot infared on her later. Going to Start at pop it valves, but i am thinking passages and or jackets.
