Anyone in the Walterboro area that could look at 1.?
My son was driving the car and both engine belts popped. I got it towed home, put new belts on, fired it up and there is 1 helluva racket coming from the valve area.
Just wondering and looking for some advice.
Thanks.
Sorry to hear about that ,you’re supposed to change them belts before they pop.Sounds like a bent valve or two.You may have done more damage by cranking it up without getting it back in time.Ole fred could probably fix that thing in no time.
You can try Tarin Roberts 843-908-4939, He’s got a good bit going on right now, but very reasonable and trust worthy guy. Lives in Mashawville, so if you know anything about that area phone service is crap. Leave him a message if he doesn’t answer.
I’ve got no time for anymore projects, sorry. If it was the timing belt it would have never cranked back up unless it just jumped one tooth then it would most likely not run or run like crap. Usually when you see both belts pop , one usually goes and takes out the other. Ask you son how hot the engine got before he shut it down. Aluminum heads will warp quick with high heat. Belts can break for several reasons, old age or a pully locking up. Pull the belts and run the car for a very short time and see if noise goes away. Could be alt, water pump, tensioner, a/c compressor… just some stuff to check easy.
Good luck double d.
Did all that you suggested, before installing belts,I could tell there was a ticking but I thought it was pieces of the old belts hitting the block .
I believe that he over revved the engine and probably bent the valves.

s man,I bought the belts 2days before this happened, I told him to change the belts after school. Does a 17 yo listen? Not at all.
I am trying to help him out like any father would do.
