I’m considering installing a network on my 2004 Cobia. Is this something a novice could do or should I track down a pro?
Also has anyone ever extended their chart plotter to a larger screen on a NMEA network. I’ve got the Garmin 441s but the screen is just tiny.
Seriously - no one has an opinion on NMEA and installing it?
Its been a few yrs since i did the one on my boat,it was pretty simple to do,you need power and then start building the network from there…
Its alot easier then the old 0183 that you had to get all. The right colors of wires together to make it work…
I am going to change out my auto pilot soon and the new one will tie right into my network i have…the old one is still wired to the 0183 network because it worked and i didnt want to mess that up…
The planning of where you want everything i feel is the hardest part…
You can google it and watch a few videos,
SAFMC you suck!
Is your motor 2000 compliant for lack of a better term? If it is an 04 yamaha make sure it has the plug. I think it was 05 that yamaha started with it on their motors but I’m not certain. I checked to see if my 07 wagood to go, now I just need to get the wiring. But to answer your question the answer I got was it is pretty much plug and play, so you should be able to do it.
If you’re motor’s ready, nothing to it. If you have the commandlink stuff for yamaha, it is even eaiser. Do it.
The result is also really comforting to know a few things about your motor that you didn’t before.
