Looks like we will lose the last week of recreational grouper season on ALL shallow water species.

Subject: Commercial grouper quota closure

I wanted you to be aware that the NMFS said today that the gag grouper commercial quota of 352,940 lbs. will likely be met around December 21st, which would in addition to closing gag, also close the entire shallow water grouper fishery in the South Atlantic.

A formal closure notice is expected to be issued very soon by the NMFS.

The season for both commercial and recreation shallow water grouper would have normally closed January 1st. The season is scheduled to reopen on May 1st.

it does read funny…subject is commercial closure, but then they mention the recreational and commercial season was set to close Jan 1 anyway…
