Hit my favorite walk in flat at 7am with the fly rod knowing I only had about a 30 to 45 minute window to see some tails. Right away there were 3 tailing in front of me, made two what I thought were good casts but the the fish just swam right over the fly. Decided to throw it closer but hit one on the head and spooked the other two in the process.
Next group was just cruising, 4 or 5 fish, not tailing hard or really eating. Put it in front of one of their noses but they just swam right over it. Switched flys to a razzmataz spooked another 5 minutes later. Turned around to start to head back and ran into another group of 4, same deal, not really eating just flopping around. Cast to one to realize there was another fish about 20ft in front of me. Slowly stripped it to him but he also would not eat.
Called it quits because I had to be at work by 8.30.
At one point I was making a cast and heard splashing in the water from a distance. Turned around and it was 4 deer hauling butt across the flat one of which looked like a 6 point buck! Pretty cool.
