Fished straight out with Super Fly on his boat , with his son & a bald guy that looked like Kurt Angle on steroids. The ride out was brutal - the waves were hitting the stbd bow flinging water all over us. We started trolling in 200’ & had a knock down or 2 - but really nothing till we found the fleet & a weedline in 350’. Got 2 gaffer dolphin & then proceded to catch mostly weeds. At 11 we turned back towards the ledge & nailed a fair wahoo in 210’. The 'hoo was caught on a lure I made out of feathers from a wild gobbler that I killed this past season. Then the way back screamed & a big sail was jumping all over the ocean. Christian got him in quickly to boatside for some pics & a release.
Since the meat fishing was slow we headed for some bottom numbers & had the trolling lines pulled close. A snake king exploded out of the water & nearly landed in the boat - crashing the short line. He stripped off 50 yds of line & pulled like a truck. When Angle got him to the boat we saw why - a cuda had the headlock on him & wouldn’t let go.
We got anchored up & The Fly saw a good dolphin near & got him to eat a whole squid . We got 11 grouper, & a limit of red porgys. One of the grouper was a 20+ lb gag.
I asked Angle if he liked to work out & he said that he loves it. I told him that this could be the happiest day of his life !! He said " hows that?" . I told him to grab the anchor rope & pull. He smiled the whole time!.
The ride home was like a no DQ falls don’t count match the whole way home. I was sitting in the Stbd stern tapping out as hard as I could - but the Super Fly didn’t see it & continued to beat us senseless. It has taken me a while to be able to talk about it.
