no fish again !

Got to go out in the new boat yesterday, first time back in it since the back surgery, and I still cant catch a fish in it! Been out in it four or five times now and have yet to hook anything in it.

All of the other kayaks that I have had in the past, I always cought at least something when I went in them. But now that I have a kayak that is set up to be fished, I cant seem to catch anything.

One thing I did find out for sure though, my back did fine with paddling and fishing, but the loading and unloading was probly a little more than I should have been doing.

Maybe next time I can hurt my back by hauling in a really big Red Fish !

where are you fishin? The bite is about to turn red hot so don’t despair… look to the upper wando and you’ll find fish…

I normally put in at Limehouse and fish around there just because I live really close to it. I have found some really good spots by boat that are about a 30 minute paddle from the landing that sometimes, have nice red fish on them. Most of the time I can snag a trout or two but ever since I got the new boat and have it set up to fish, it seems like I cant catch anything. Not that I ever really catch all that much to start with. When I go, I go fishing. I dont normally get to go catching.

My problem is I dont get a chance to get on the water all that often so my fishing skills are limited just as much as my time to fish is. I used to kayak a lot but having a kayak set up to fish and learning how to use the rig is a newer hobby to me. Also learning good places to get to by kayak has been a little project of mine too.

Sooner or later though, I am going to snag a nice one to land in the new kayak.

Maybe too much stuff? I see guys out all the time with their kayaks outfitted and geared up like there heading out on an offshore tuna cruise. The joy of kayak fishing is simplicity. Learn to tie good knots quickly and you will need fewer rods.

Confidence for some unexplainable reason fish bite your hook when you are sure they will. It is a lot like the dating scene. A confident guy gets the girls. I don’t understand it myself but I have experienced it many times. If I am in doubt of my set up I catch fewer fish. If I am sure of my set up, the fish bite. I do not understand.

Murphy’s law. Cast rod, put in rod holder, start messing with something else (phone, food, drink, whatever) and sure enough a fish will bite. It’s like they know you are occupied. Almost every time my wife calls me a fish will hit my line. I use to hate it when she called. Now when the phone rings I get ready for a strike.

Go paddling: Go for a paddle and take a rod verses going fishing with a kayak. You will see the fishing as a bonus to a nice way to exercise and relax on the h20.

I have been kayak fishing for ten years. I still am learning new things with this most incredible sport!
