no luck lately...

so over the past week or so, I’ve fished all over the place with no success.

7/5 ellis creek near a dock where reds hang out around low tide. before i went to the doc i caught some shrimp & finger mullet w/ the cast net, fished for like 2hrs all around my spot & some other places near it, but no luck, not even a nibble. water was rather murky, & moving quickly as the tide rose to about 1/3 before i left. tried both carolina rig & popping cork

7/7 a stono river creek mouth where i caught my 1st trout on an artificial is the only action i’ve seen in 4 trips out on the water, it was great to actually see a fish, but a slight bummer not catching anything. finger mullet & artificials this time. reeling in a carolina rig w/ live finger mullet on a circle hook to reposition my bait, get it about 10 ft from the boat & as it comes out the water, a 20+" trout surfaces that was chasing it. tried for probably 2 more hours casting all around trying to hook up, but no luck. tried doa & gulp shrimp under popping cork and electric chicken paddle tail on jig head, as well as the live mullet on carolina rig & popping cork. arrived @ dead low & fished until it rose to about mid tide, water murky & began moving rather quickly toward the end of the trip. finally gave up to go buy a flounder sandwich since apparently i can’t catch any fish

7/9 quick trip after work up the ashley between james island connector & hwy 17N, on the west ashley bank I tried doa shrimp under a popping cork & electric chicken paddle tail on a jig head. i only fished about 45 minutes, water was dirty, no nibbles in deep water or grass line, didn’t see any movement either. no nav lights working on the boat (new ones in the mail), so i headed home early

7/10 went further up the ashley after work, this time w/ some live finger mullet, tried 3 different spots but no luck, only saw some mullet jumping, water still dirty but clearer than my past few trips. i also tried my doa shrimp under a popping cork in the grass & on the grass line. this

Fishing has been tough for me as well. Took a long break from February to June without fishing, which I don’t do much-just been busy on the weekends with other stuff and had some maintenance to do to the boat. Been fishing 5 times in the last few weeks. First three trips had a hard time finding bait. Now that we know where the bait is, hope things will get better. Went out on Sunday for 5 hours with plenty of finger mullet and still only managed one decent trout. Fished the Stono.

Same here. Went out 8 hours one day and caught shark and stingray. I’m going to switch to artificial to see if that helps.

Stono’s been real tough for us for quite awhile too

finally started heading to cleaner water and started to at least catch something

caught fish across from the airport in the stono and up in the kiawah river… had to go that far to find fish

we’re still not bringing home but a few at a time, but we’re at least catching something besides stingrays or getting skunked

still haven’t found the big reds or trout this year

we’ve stayed in the stono all year so far, it’s been extremely muddy…

headn to the reefs as soon as I see a day we don’t have planned for something else and it’s calm enough to take my little 18’ CC

good luck!

'bout time

thanks for the replies, i think my problem is definitely this dirty water. when i have luck, it is never in murky waters, maybe it’s not luck after all! lol
