No Man's Friend

What kind of tide do I need in order to run through No Man’s Friend safely? Tide normally has around a 6ft swing, am I safe 3 to 4 hours after falling or is that too late?

I know upper end of Muddy Bay may be an issue too. Same question of timing the tide here.

Thanks

Looks like I will have to figure this one out on my own aye.

I wouldn’t try it after 1.5 hrs before low at the jetties to 2 hrs after the rise. Of course moon and wind can drastictly change the conditions.

I use the first creek coming from the jetties. Just stay left where Sign Creek enters. Two hour either side of low.

Thanks

NMF got it’s name for a reason. Stick with Jones if you’re unsure.

2 hours before low. 1/2 the tide between clambank and Fraiser pt. You might want to take a look from the NI side closer to low to see if you want to run through there. I haven’t been in a while but people like to take the poles out of the oysterbeds from time to time.

Cooker knows…:slightly_smiling_face:

DrinkinBudLite is right. Why even go through NMF? You can make it through Jones Creek almost anytime. Knowing the sandbars and oyster beds to avoid is the key. There is no substitution for experience so be careful until you gain knowledge of the route.

I think no mans friend is easier than jones and much, much shorter. I run my 20 bay boat through there at a 1.5 ft tide no problem and run the flats boat threw at a .8 no problem. Poles were still marking oyster beds 2 weeks ago.

I run from up the waccamaw so I cut inside rabbit island, frasier point and run between big march island and the mainland. I can get through nmf without hitting anything in the flats boat but will throw mud until I get back around the northern tip of big marsh. Hammer down though and you shouldn’t have any problems, you can skip across that mud, if you stop you are in **** creek without a paddle :stuck_out_tongue:

You can high speed low drag through mud bay but the mouth of NMF is high speed more drag. You have to remember 2 things while going through there at a low tide. Birds don’t walk on water and there is no such thing as a top water crab pot. On a hard West wind Mud Bay dries up too, so if the tide chart says 0.8 and it’s blowing 20kts out of the west, you can rest assured the mouth of NMF will be anorexic skinny. You can also rest assured that while you wait on the water to come back some motard is going to attempt to blast through from NI in a 16ft tri hull with faded glitter and a mercury.

Trust Me.
