This morning going out the “no oil” light came on at the ramp. I went to West Marine and picked up some motor oil for the motor. I poured about a whole gallon into the oil tank and went back to the ramp, when I turned the key, the console made a beep and the “no oil” light stayed on and then it made a high pitched noise and continued for a solid minute. I backed off the trailer and went to fish and whenever I turned the key, the high pitch noise repeated. I stopped at the IOP marina and picked up some more Motor oil. I poured about half a gallon in and the high pitch noise continued whenever i turned the key and the “no oil” light stayed on the whole day. I used the correct oil and the motor automatically mixes the oil ration. It is a 2004 Evinrude 115hp. Any advice on what to do?
If they are like Yamaha , they have a small oil reservoir under the cowling. They larger oil tank where you add oil has a pump that sends oil to this smaller one on the engine. Check the level on your small tank. If it is low it could cause the alarm to go off. You may also have a manual switch for the pump in case the float switch goes out. If so, turn it on and see if the pump is working. If it is working then it may be a float switch on the small tank…
If you ain’t hooked, you ain’t doing it right.

I would strongly suggest NOT using the boat again until you get it figured out.
just because the oil is in the tank, doesn’t mean it is getting properly mixed in the fuel, and could cause a catastrophic failure
