We put out of Folly to go dive at the 60 for a bit but as we got there, one of the two divers got sea sick and stayed on top with me as the other went down to take a look around the barge. He said he saw a bunch of big AJ’s, Sheeps, and some other good stuff but had left the stringer at home so he didn’t stick anything… I caught a juvenile gag( a first for me!) and a small bsb as I was getting robbed blind by the sheeps.
There was a school of something just hanging around the boat the whole time we were there. It looked like some dolphin but unfortunately I didn’t have anything strong enough to toy with any of those things… would have loved to get my first by just pitching a line to it!
All in all, it was a gorgeous day on the water and to add to it, there was NO ONE else at the 60 with us all morning. one boat came in and started bottom fishing just a bit before we left but i was totally surprise we were the only ones there on such a gorgeous day.

Sounds like fun, how were the seas?
I don’t dive and I’m not busting your ballz but have a question. Is it safe for a single diver to go down, I thought you had to dive with a buddy?

I dove the 60 once solo but it was just to free my anchor and shoot a couple of nice spadefish in the process. I’ve also helped a couple of boats out there who got hung in the barge, they were happy to not lose their anchor. The 60 is considered a shallow dive and I feel safe by myself, however I do not recommend doing extended dives alone. When I dove there alone I did have a pony bottle ( totally redundant tank and regulator, backup system for the non-divers here). I would not dive any of the deeper dives alone though, meaning more than 100’, not worth the risk. I guess the main thing is that the diver must be very comfortable with it and be experienced. If any of the fishermen here have ever wondered what the 60 looks like below I have attached a link here of a video from last year.

Thought some of you would like to see what you are always getting hung up in down there.
Good footage Rap, what camera rig do you use? Mine’s a bit outdated but I have some great HEBE shots to share. Guess I better get it off my HI8 onto digital eh?
Those videos are cool CDT. I’d love to see some of the deeper trips with the big fish.
We really need to schedule something soon. The water is plenty warm enough now.

I’m back and I’ve promised to behave this time.

I am truly impressed. Thanks for the visit to 60, I would have never seen it otherwise.

i’ve certainly done my share of solo diving or diving with a buddy but once you get down the water vis makes you solo… that being said in the big blue it certainly makes sense to buddy dive and to keep in sight and really work together… with a bunch of folks in the water the fish get spooky… sometimes you can drive them to your buddy for an easy shot… also if something goes wrong its nice to have somebody watching your back… at least thats my .02 worth… nice video…
