That is 3 times in 10 days i have fished for Reds in my area and got skunked.Plenty of crab chunks and finger mullet for bait but no takes.Water temp was 88 and stained. Not seeing mullet jumping along the ICW on Low tide at all.I will be night fishing soon and that may be a lot more productive.
We went on Sunday morning to Wadmallaw and ended up with only 1 15" flounder and 1 red, 27", caught on cut mullet, just after high tide.
I feel your pain Joe. I have noticed a significant slow down in that area of the river beginning by the end of May. My last 4 trips over 6 weeks have been tough to put fish in the boat. I have seen a good number of fish, but they are being lazy and not hungry. The 2 fish I kept the weekend before last were full of fiddlers. Also, shrimp and mullet have not done well. All my fish recently have been on pinfish and croaker.

Hard to explain what is going on.I will night fish starting next week and see if the night feeding is on.

joe… we have seen so many new folks fishing the stono of late…and most of the time when we see a “fish on”…it ends up in their cooler. That might have a lot to do with the decrease in numbers too. We release ours 98% of the time…

I have fished this area for 40 years. This is really the first time I can ever remember going out on a trip and not seen a few reds pushing. My go to spot has been off for 3 trips. Not even a rat red.

Happy to see you out there yesterday Joe BUT my luck was about the same and I also had a hard time finding bait. I’ve been reeling in too many sharks and was wondering if that was the problem.
If it ain’t broke…let me try!

It was pretty good yesterday afternoon. Took a couple of friends out, we went 9 for 11 on reds. 1 on crab, 2 on finger mullet, and 6 on paddle tails. Water was 86.1 degrees. The key for us was too slowwww down our presentation. They were real spooky.
With cut crab it is just let it lay.LOL
