So my 1989 35hp evinrude crapped out on me again. Cleaned the carb and had it running good on friday, go to take it out on sunday nothing. Doesnt even try to start. Checked my fuel had tons of water in it hooked it up to new fuel drained the line and carb. Even put starting fluid in it and nothing. Checked my plugs for a spark, nada. My question is were should I start and how do I check to see were the electric problem is coming from.
check the emergency landard 1st, then any fuses, then coils.

Chris V says starting fluid is a no no in outboards.
Chris is correct. It washes ALL lubrication out of the cylinders.

we actually have a starting fluid we use now, and it has lube in it.
no spark, could be coil, kill switch, stator, powerpack.
or, the plug.

Think it has been narrowed down to power pack or stator. A buddy helped me look at it and said it was unlikely that both the coils went out at the same time, one should still be putting out a spark. But who knows the way this motor has been going. Thanks for the info will keep you updated on the final prognosis.
