No start on Yamaha F115

Here we go again. Fix one thing and move on to the next. Now, when I turn the key to try to start the motor, I here a click at the motor and no turn over. Turn the key off/on several times and then it fires up. Checked the battery and its holding steady around 12.4v. On the instrument panel the guage shows around 8v. Could this be a starter relay or starter itself issue?

Thanks again!!

Check your tilt trim button on the throttle to make sure the motor will go up & down.
The starter relay & the tilt trim relay are a double duty component . It takes a lot of abuse when you trim your motor all day. But it is also part of your starting circuit.

This is what I had trouble with a couple of times.

START BY BYPASSING BATTERY CABLES WITH JUMPER CABLES
IF YOU ARE DROPPING TO 8 VOLTS, SOUNDS LIKE LOW VOLTAGE, AND MOTOR THINKS YOU HAVE A DEAD BATTERY.
STARTER RELAY IS NOT PART OF THE TILT TRIM SYSTEM ON LATE MODEL 4 STROKE 115.
IF JUMPER CABLES DONT FIX ISSUE, GET VOLT METER AND START CHECKING EVERYTHING TO FIND OUT WHERE THE VOLTAGE STOPS.

IF I RESPOND IN ALL CAPS, ITS NOT ON PURPOSE, AND I AM NOT YELLING

The other part may be causing your starting problems is part # 11 relay assembly.
It should be electrical drawing # 2 on Boats.net WEB SITE

I had to replace this component this year also.

Best of luck.

So, here’s my update. I went back to the boat and checked the voltage at the ignition switch. With the key turn on, the meter showed 12.6v; while the gauge showed 8v. I bumped the gauge with the rubber butt of my multi-meter and it moved up to 12v. So, the gauge was just sticking. I load tested the battery and it never dropped below 11v. Then I went over to the starter relay and realized that the hot lead for the trim relay (just replaced 2 weeks ago) and starter relay meet at the same spot. Everything was tight and looked good. I took these connections apart and hit everything with a wire brush and put it all back together. I don’t know if that was my issue yet or not, but it hasn’t given me an issues since when I crank the motor. Time will tell! Thanks for everyone’s input!
