Not saying it should be as limited as it is in the article … I’m taking about making any cove on Lake Murray with a mouth opening ____ feet or longer a ‘No Wake’ zone …
I say if you want to live on the water and not have wakes at your property, go live on a private pond. People are already responsible for any damage caused by their wake.

Sure, I get that if you live in the water then wake is something you have to deal with … My issue is with idiots doing donuts in the backs of smaller coves (300ft or less) because the big water is either too rough and/or (more likely) patrolled …
It’s nuts right now and only going to get worse as it gets warmer …
As for “being responsible” for damage caused by your wake - that’s a joke, right?
The process of getting the coves designated, though with good intentions, seems convoluted to me. I feel we have an adequate number of well-placed no wake zones on Murray, but my view may be a little skewed due to not living on the lake. A little common courtesy goes a long way. For example, if we’re in a tight coves, don’t go plowing or ripping around if there are docked boats present not on lifts. I believe the law states that we are all responsible for the wake we create.
I think a lot of our problems could be helped by more emphasis on boating education. You have to be licensed to drive a car, but anyone regardless of lack of experience 16 or older is allowed to operate a boat. Things as simple as concepts like right-of-way are not understood or observed. Mandating some simple boater education, in my opinion, would not solve all problems but would be helpful.

This is a big problem in my cove. The law is basically unenforceable. I’ve been tempted to anchor 50’ out from my dock to stop some of this.
If I plan to fish for fun I’m on the lake very early and usually quit fishing around 9 or 10 when the boat riders start waking me. It can be interesting when the jet ski crowd starts running doughnuts around the no wake bouys in front of Acapulco. I guess they go by them so fast they can’t read the no wake signs. I also agree that the process of determining where no wake zones are needs to be addressed. There are a few places on the lower lake that seem to have exceptionally large no wake zones. One in particular is very near Suzie Ebert island.

I could maybe see it in those small coves, but in your original post you said, “___ feet” and left it open. I think a lot of it would depend on whatever number is proposed.

Agreed - I personally would like to see it on coves 300 feet or less … I mean, a Football field really isn’t that big when you think about it …
I had idiots doing donuts in front of our ramp at Hallmark shores and it was next to near impossible to put the boat on the trailer in all the wake …
Boat full of kids blasting music in daddy’s $125K ski boat … I hate being the “a-hole old guy” but that kind of crap is uncalled for … and you can’t tell them anything 'cause they’ll just cuss you, laugh, and do it even more out of spite …
