i’m looking to get a new prop a stainless one as well as some wings for my motor. does any one know where i can get this stuff at a decent price? and does the year make and model matter when i’m buying this stuff? and what does the pitch do? my current is 17 do i just stay with that or should i go up or down in pitch? any help would be greatly appreciated.
You’ll need a tachometer on your engine to do much prop testing. The need for wings (fins) is more than likely an indicator of an underlying problem, such as engine too high or low on transom, or a need for weight distribution. Pitch = distance a prop travels during one rotation. 17 pitch = 17" traveled during a rotation.

well to be honest i have no clue what a tachometer is so it sounds out of my league, but there’s a big chunk missing out of one of the blades on my current prop. so i figured i’d replace it. as far as the the fins i just herd they help your boat plane out faster no clue what there actually for. should i take it some where and get it looked at? also my boat says its only rated for a 90 but it has a 100 on it is that a big no no?
A tachometer will tell you the RPM’s (rotations per minute) of your motor. A chunk out of the blade on your prop can cause some bad vibration which could cause a bearing to go bad around the shaft your prop is attached to.
Yes, I think that is a no-no. Years ago, my dad had a 235 on his bass boat that was only rated for a 175. The Evenrude he had on it had a 175 cover on it and nobody was ever the wiser. That might be cheaper to do than changing motors if you can find a replacement.
