North Carolina Coast

I am going to visit a friend in Ocean Isle NC next weekend and was wondering if anyone in here was knowlegeable on NC saltwater fishing. I did some poking around and am a little confused by the wording on their Licensing. The 10 day coastal non resident License states it is not valid for inland waters. By inland, are they refering to lakes/rivers well inland? I will be fishing what we call inshore here, salt rivers, creeks, etc.

You will be good with the salt license

I’ve fished Sunset Beach and Ocean Isle since I was a kid. Just get the temporary saltwater license and you’re fine. Brush up on the slot , limits, etc. They’re different there.
You can set up under the bridge at Sunset and pull out some nice big redfish. Preferred bait up there is pogies/menhayden. They’re thick along the ICW.
It’s been really interesting to me to see the difference in fishing there and in the Charleston area. Tight lines!

Oh yeah, you can drift Tubbs Inlet (be careful gettting out there) with mudminnows on a chicken rig…flounder are pretty cooperative there.
Also OIFC.com has some fishing reports

Lee you’ll be good to go with non-resident salt water license… O-Isle
has some great fishing areas for reds. Tidal creeks close to inlet also
good for the usual specks and flaties… Catch em up and post!!!:sunglasses:

I grew up fishing there alot. I have a couple of good spots lot’s of flounder there. PM me I can point you in the right direction.

pitviper you want the 10 day coastal non resident License… inland waters means freashwater lakes and river etc… I have a place in OIB and fished there all the time, inshore and backwater marshes, until moving to Charleston a couple years ago. In back waters, the flounder fishing this time of year is what I recommend targeting. Tubbs inlet is usually really good this time of year… especially around the mouth of Jinx creek. Also Shallot inlet. you can also catch reds and flounder under the Sunset beach bridge and OIB bridge. Be sure to check out http://oceanislefishingcenter.com site. The information and reports they share on that site is amazing. Near shore fishing there is also good this time of year. you can catch a lot of kings and cobia all around their in 60-80ft of water (5-15miles out). also close in near inlets and reefs. feel free to PM me if you want more info. I’m very familiar with OIB and don’t mind helping a fellow fishermen.
