At the request of a few; I am posting some of the patterns that would be good to have with you if you plan to flyfish in the southwestern mountains of North Carolina during the last two weeks of May and into early June.
Nymphs:
Cahill #10
Mayfly 10
Yellow Stone 8-10
Tellico 10
Brown Stone 8-10
Inch Worms 10
Yallarhammer* 8-10
Dry Fly
Little Yellow Stone 14-16
Light Cahill 12-16
Light Caddis 12-16
Sulphur Dun 12-14
Female Adams 14-16
Fish late, take a nap or fish the nymphs deep at mid-day. Take caution with the water flows this year. Runoff is on the extreme side, especially the Tuckaseegee, do to release water from Lake Glenville associated with the dam repair.
*The Yallarhammer Woodpecker found in this area is an endangered species. The locally tied, naturally feathered, Yallarhammer flies are “suspect” to DNR guys and will generate a fine.
