North Edisto Action

Myself and my brother-in-law went out with Raddaddy this morning. Let me say this, the man knows what he is doing. Got out at high tide and strait away were on the trout. Nonstop action until the tide started to drop out. Ended up with 5 keepers. Then on to the reds. The wind was not playing nice and had the tide beat everywhere we stopped at, but we did manage a few. My brother-in-law caught one overslot 27 and I caught one about 25-26, didn’t measure him, but it was way overslot. Finished up with one more that was in the slot.

After that the wind picked up as the tide got pretty low and had the water all stirred up so it was time to go. Thanks Raddaddy for a great time and we sure learned a ton. Will be at it the rest of the week and hopefully we’ll pick up where we left off.

Looks like a fine day to me sir!

Wicked fishing

Yesterday 6/10 we only managed 2 hookups on big reds and didn’t get anything to the boat. That strong south wind was all wrong for the North Edisto and we couldn’t really fish where we wanted to.

Today, 6/11 we got on a flat early this am before the tide got up and had big reds all around us, but they didn’t want anything we put in front of them. We moved down river after the tide got in the grass and managed one 19" red at another spot.

Next thing was about 2 hours until high and we got on some nice trout. We caught 2 at 19" and a few dinks and some bluefish and ladyfish . Got off the water before it got hot today because we have already had enough of the sun this week.

We went out this am and hit the flats first thing after catching a little bait. We were determined to catch some of those big reds this time. Quartered a big crab and threw a chunk up beside an oyster bar that had a big fish pushing water all around it. As soon as that crab hit the water it was on!! After a good fight with half his back put the water for most of the time I landed the biggest red yet, 28 3/4.

This morning we went back to the same flat and had fish all around us, but no bait. We tried to catch some live mullet to cut up but couldn’t get close enough to any. We had some dead ones in the live well, so we cut one up and tried it. Nothing… had fish all around our bait and they wouldn’t touch it.

Finally we got a big crab to bite and he held on until he got in the boat, thank the Lord. We cut him up and soon after it was on! I caught one that went 28 1/2" He was up in the grass when he took it and man, those big reds can really get it through the grass when hooked. Finally I got him out and brought him alongside the boat for a quick measure and photo and he was back on his way.

My brother-in-law caught another slot fish right at 20" and we missed two more on the last to pieces of that one crab.

Next we made a short run to the trout hole and in the last 2 hours before high tide we managed 4 nice keeper trout and a few under sized ones.

This has been a great vacation and I cant wait to come back and do it again next year.
