Went out late morning about 11 thinking it would be a slow day fishing with the temperature so hot. Got to the spot and after about an hour of sitting with nothing, my smallest rod (penn sargus 2000) goes off and starts screammingggg which got my heart pumpin. Picked up the rod and started reeling…but nothing. Could not gain any line on this fish at all. It came so close to spooling me i was digging for a life jacket to tie to my anchor line and leave it. Finally after 12 runs away from the boat and 35 minutes of fighting, i released my personal best redfish for south carolina, a 36inch 16lb red caught on 10lb braid and finger mullet on the bottom. Also hooked up a double with reds but they tangled and lost them both. Once the tide flooded the grass i headed on the flat with my fly rod nut no takers. Oh well, cant complain with one 16 pounder.
