Hey all, I am new to the site and joined just today. I am taggin a long with a buddy on sunday who is heading out of georgetown to north inlet. His boat is not suitable for flats, but isnt a big deep water boat either. he isplanning on doing a little shrimping and maybe some red fishing. He doesnt fly fish like i do, so we will see how the conflict of interest goes. Anyway, is anyone catching any reds on ffly in that area? What fly seems to be doing the trick? AlsoI live in Myrtle Beach,so all these glorious flats charleston offers are a little past my weekend warrior range. Anyone know of some nice walk to flats I could fish near the grand strand as I dont have a boat? Thank you so much in advance guys. New to all this, so bare with me fellas.
Hearing shell beach at murrells inlet a lot. Any thoughts experiences there as far as fly fishing?
If you live in MB go fish Little river. There are a few flats that will have fish on them. Get a tide chart and look for anything higher than a 5.5.
Dont waste your time at shell landing its all thick grass and soft bottom. There are some small ponds in the back of MI but no real flats. good luck
><(((’>
Thanks for the info. I always thought little river would be a nice spot, just have to go out there one weekend and poke around I guess.
flats fishin may be limited up there compared to around here in charleston but yall have epic surf fishing up there. I make a trip every year in October and have killed the oversize and slot reds, spanish, and big bluefish past couple years. Sink tip line, short leader with 30lb shock tippet, and a flashy half and half clouser minnow is all you need. The Garden City side of MI, South end of Litchfield, and North and South end of Pawleys are killer. Give it a try man it never lets me down. First week of november on a low incoming will have you catchin bluefish in the two to three pound range every cast it’s a blast
Sounds great. Never would have crossed my mind to head to MI to surf fish. Tried my area for pompano a few times with no luck. That sounds like a blast and I will def give that a shot in the next couple months. Thanks for the detailed info.
Colt,
What colors do you typically use in the surf in the fall?
blue and white with silver flash is all you need.
Thanks Colt, luckily I already have some of those tied up. I am headed taking some time off work next week and headed to the NC coast for some surfing and fishing. I think I will pull out the fly rod and give the surf fishing a shot.
