Not Really Sure Where to Post This

Has anybody ever run across a rod like this? Cleaning out my dad’s stuff and ran across this beauty. He says it was his father’s, probably purchased somewhere in the early 1930’s . It has line guides on both sides and a round guide at the tip. He says it has the dual guides so that when the pole would naturally start to warp in one direction, you could string it the other way to make it straighten back up. I took a pic of the partial label but can’t figure it out. I’m really wondering what it might be worth. Any ideas would be appreciated

Since it was owned by your grandfather, then your dad and maybe one day you…I would put a value on it as priceless!

Yeah…not really looking to sell it, just curious.
Jimmy, thanks so much for the link. It led me to the right place and I’ve identified the rod as a Montague Dreadnought from probably 1940. Amazing how much knowledge is out there in the CF community!

I have a similar one in my man room that I bought at an estate sale somewhere about a year ago. Mine came with a big brass reel on it, which I believe dated it back to the early 40s. I don’t think they’re extremely valuable, but they are very cool. I paid $40 for my combo. Yours appears to be in good shape as it looks like that case has kept it away from damage. Mine does not have the double eye like that, but the top eye is the same. Perhaps mine was repaired at some point in time after the natural bend started to occur. Thanks for posting this because I didn’t know that about these rods.

I would agree with others that the personal value far exceeds monetary due to the fact that you father’s father fished it. If it were me I’d find a vintage reel, stick it on there and go catch me a sea bass with it. Have my picture taken with it and posted on the wall whereever I decided to display the rod. Your very lucky to have that.

Nice rod. I have a couple of old steel rods that belonged to my grandfather that don’t have much monetary value but are priceless to me.
