Not so hungry reds 2/18

Went back to my spot with big expectations. The reds still there but spooked and when I could find them again just not feeding agressively. Did managed 3 over slot with the biggest 31". Caught them on a new Daiwa Tierra 1500 reel that Chas Angler had on sale mounted on a Loomis med light rod. Now that’s fun.

Good stuff, man. How do you like the new combo? I’m lookin’ to get a new inshore outfit myself. From what I’ve read on here, I’m pretty much sold on the Penn Battle but am always looking for a good deal. Let me know what you think. Thanks in advance.

Penn Battle is a good reel. I got the 1500 Daiwa because I like fishing with light tackle and it was a really great sale. Shimano Stratics are my favorite. I have a 1000 with 15lb braid on it mounted on a Shimano Clarus light rod that is light as a feather and will bring the big boys. I use heavier tackle around docks like the 2500 are 3000 with 20lb braid. On the light tackle you will loose more especially if allot of oyster beds around but allot of fun.

Good Stuff Redsneck. You’ve been killing it lately, and thats a beautiful looking red right there. just wondering how big that red in your profile pic is? thats one hell of a red as well, especially for inshore!

I appreciate your ■■■■■■■■, man. I have a Stradic 4000FH; they’re awesome reels but sort of pricey. I think I’m gonna go with the Battle. Thanks again for the advice.

You may get terribly disgruntled over time with the Tierra reel. I bought 8 Tierras when I was friends with the local rep. before he retired recently. Every reel developed a problem with either the anti-reverse or bail springs (sticky). I will stick to Shimanos from here on due to their customer service and fixing any problem (within reason) at no charge on any reel 2 years old or under. Just send them back to the California office, attention Jim Peterson, Shimano, and they will do you right.

I couldnt agree more with Raddaddy. Had the shaft on my 2500FD snap. Sent it to Shimano and a couple weeks later had a reel replaced at no charge. Extremely friendly customer service.

I’ve had two Diawa Tierras and loved them…for a while. One of the smoothest drags out there. However, both have developed serious problems. I sent one back to Diawa after one year and they repaired it under warranty. It failed again in only two weeks. I sent it back and they said it was too worn to repair and offered nothing more. The second one is grinding in gears and has sloppy anti-reverse that hangs frequently. Both have line roller bearing problems after two replacements on each. I thought this was a good reel, but will stick to Stradics.

I also have two Battles I really like…the HT100 drag is very good, but both have corroded badly on the rear of the gearcase on each side of the gold trim strip. And I take good care to wash gently with Salt Away and rinse, plus lube frequently.

Well, it’s like the old proverb that if a deal is to good to be true, it probably is. I researched them on the net when I saw the sale and could only find good reviews and no bad comments. I did see that they don’t sell them anymore in Bass Pro shops or Cabelas which should have raised a red flag. I will stick with my stractis and hope I get my $69 worth until it messes up. I have alread caught several hogs with it.
