Sorry for posting in the stripers forum with this, but this forum is more local than any charleston one. I was just wondering if anybody has fished at Weston Lake on fort jackson. I am going to head out there to camp and fish tomorrow and wondered if anybody has any info on the lake. Any suggestions are appreciated… and again, sorry for posting in the stripers forum!
I’ve heard that lake has some really good bass. If I were going to fish a small lake this time of the year, I would pack some topwaters-- jitter bugs, devil horses, and poppers-- for early and late, and a good variety of plastic worms. Experiment with color and rigging. My favorite way to fish worms is unweighted, “trick style” when working the shallows. Good luck! I used to go to the Fort quite a bit to play golf with my father, but life has gotten too busy for 2 expensive hobbies. I would hear a good bit about the lake when I was going out there. Hopefully, someone with a little more info will chime in.

Thanks for the info. I was gonna focus on topwater and weightless worms. I have fished Varn lake on mccrady training center and caught about 25 bass in 2 hours on a weightless finesse worm so I’ll try to repeat.
Next time out you might want to try a Green Pumpkin Mag II worm if there are some really big bass out there. For whatever reason, Green Pumpkin seems to be a good all 'round color choice for largemouth. Try either a Texas rig or if there is some deep water then a Carolina rig. Try dipping the tail in chartreuse garlic flavored dye.
Also a floating frog might produce around cover. Bass will usually jump all over the frog. Don’t set the hook too soon on the frog. Pause before you set the hook and you’ll have a better hook up percentage. When you do set the hook set it hard and fast.
Thanks, I went out and fished all the trees and structure with no luck. I then, towards the evening, threw on a Carolina rig and fished a sloping bank in 5-10’ and caught 3, 1-1/5 lbers.
