Hello my name is Red. I am the GM of the Wild Hare Sports Cafe. We are holding a Striper Tournament on August 11. It’s $100 a team and max of 4 per boat. Prize pot will be determined with number of entries. Meeting at the Irmo Wild hare at 5am for breakfast and rules. Putting in at the dam at 6:30 am and weigh in will be at the Irmo Hare Tiki Hut at 4pm with live music and after party. It’s our first tournament and we are very excited. I just wanted to reach out to you guys for any sign ups or helpful advice. My cell number is 727-9500 or call Austin Dial at 803-622-6350 for any questions. For signup call 803-929-0374. Thanks!
You do not need to have your boat at the Wild Hare at 5:00. A member of your team needs to check you in at Wild Hare in Irmo at 5:00. You can have the boat waiting in the water for their return.
The PAYOUTS are going to be 100% to anglers! 75% for first and 25% for second. The big fish pot is 100% for first.
Tournament starts at 6:30 and you must be checked in by 4:00 pm.
They had 12-14 boats signed up as of this morning.
This is going to be a good tournament. It’s their first time out so all the kinks have not been ironed out. Let’s try to show them some support and fish the event.
Big pots are nice but personally I would like to see these local tournaments pay a little deeper than just 2-3 places. It would be nice to finish 4th or 5th and still pay for your bait if nothing more. I think the response would be better by the more casual teams if the pay was 5 deep.
If it were the 25th or after, I would get a team together to fish it. But with our club tournament on the Hill on the 18th, I and probably others will be down there this Saturday practicing and searching. Perhaps if Wild Hare puts on a tournament next year, they’ll take into account the local club’s schedule.
Again, these guys admitted they are not experts at running a tournament and would love input on how to make it better next year. They are excited to have put together what they did and any ■■■■■■■■ is welcome. I’ll share some of the ideas above. Hopefully next year they will have perfected the rules and things will run a lot better for them. Given their lack of experience I feel they did a pretty good job with most of the rules. Maybe we’ll see some of you guys out there!
Just reminding everyone that the new Regulations are that you are to stop fishing after you catch 5 fish per person with no size limit, kept or released.
Seems there have been less dead/floating fish due to the new Regulations and I for one support them.
Good luck to all.
I had the fortunate opportunity to fish with Team Gar-Heart for the WH tourny. Shawn ROCKS! We finished first. David Hair’s team with Mike and Robert took second place.
It was an outstanding day for us for sure. We fished cut bait on the east side of F4(maybe even the west side of the cell beside F4) in 60 feet of water. The fish were really stacked in there and they started biting almost immediately. We had all the fish we weighed by 9:00 or so. Biggest fish was a shade under 9 and the smallest was 7.5. Our 5 fish creel was between 40 and 41 pounds even though on their hand scale suspended at a 45 degree angle it only registered 38 and change. Participation was not great but we were happy to bank some coin. Nothing like a great day of fishing with a little cash bonus to boot!
They plan to run the tournament again next year with a few rule changes to make it more in line with what people are familiar with. These were some real nice guys and the weighin was a hoot.
