Now volt gauge dilema

My volt gauge pins to the high side when the engine is running. As soon as I cut the engine the gauge reads the battery charge.

What motor? You need to check the regulator output with a good handheld voltmeter. If it reads over 14 volts you’re frying your battery. With engine running measure the voltage at the battery. Should be around 12.6 to 13.5v. If that checks OK, suspect the guage.
Is the tach working OK?

Need to know what motor. My 1995 Johnson 88spl has no voltage regulator (only a rectifier). Never did. That is not uncommon on older motors… was kinda’ chincy on a '95. Consequently voltage varies. Most modern motors have regulators. Anyway, need to know what motor.

It is a 2000 Johnson 150 Ocean Pro J150vxsss

Been using it for several months the way it is with out any noticeable detriment. I will check voltage while running engine next chance I get.
