Have read where using oxygen inline with the aeration system can “supercharge” the bait, but if too much is used it can make the bait sluggish. Thinking of trying this in my tank. Would be using 100% pure O2. Medical grade. Any opinions on this? Do many of yall do it? Thanks.
I have an oxygen system but do not use it a lot. I like it when the bait tank is really full and when the weather is very hot. If you have bait that looks sluggish in the tank a shot of 02 will perk them right up.
I use welding grade O2 $10.00 a bottle with a 0-4 lpm regulator which is a children med grade reg has 1/64 settings I use it year round usually set on 1/64 except when I have alot of bait[12-14doz 50 gal Creek]or water temp is above 72 degrees in tank the setting is 1/32. I run this through a DANNCO unit. If you get some poor looking bait I usually run it up to 1 or 1.5 for a few minutes, This has worked well for me over the past few years
the bait can get sluggish from the the build up of CO2 in the water when using compressed oxygen. you should circulate the water to off gas the increased CO2 from increased respiration…I use compressed oxygen in the summer and dispense it through a ceramic diffuser. When compressed gas expands the temperature decreases…so, I not only increase the oxygen content of the water but my ceramic diffuser acts as a chiller as well…
Just so you know, the medical grade bottles and medical regulators are not UL Listed for use in a marine environment. You should use plastic tubing rated for use with oxygen as well. I don’t personally know of anyone that uses the medical grade equipment that has ever had a fire, sure hope it remains that way…
I’ve spent about 85% of my life’s wages on fishing, the rest I just wasted…
