O2 Sensor

Anyone in the Charleston Area experianced in removing and cleaning a O2 sensor on a 2000 Yamaha OX66 200 and would be willing to help me do it? I will do the work if you could supervise. I watched a video on it and was a little confused and want someone there who has done it before to guide me. Thanks in advance.

Unscrew it & keep wire attached. Use a small torch & clean it yourself. Easy job.

Is it really that easy? The video I watched was a lot more complicated…

Yep wasn't hard to do.

its a very easy straight forward job
however, I would suggest unplugging the sensor so you don’t risk damaging the connection between the wire and the sensor as you unscrew it.
you can leave it connected as ted suggested, but its safer to just unplug it, then you can work on it away from the motor.
also, you are going to want to take the little “barbell” out and clean it as well. the barbell is hollow so make sure you clean out the center
start to finish for someone who hasn’t done before is probably 45 minutes

Thanks for all the encouragement. I tackled it this afternoon. I broke the O2 Sensor loose, then took the three bolts out of the block it screwed into out and twisted it off as opposed to the sensor itself so I didn’t twist the wires. The O2 sensor was caked pretty good with carbon build up as well as the hole through the center of the barbell piece. I was able to get them all clean and it is back together. I ran the motor for a little while on idol and it seems to be running fine. I will get it in the water Monday when I get to the lake to see if there is any change in the top end. Before the cleaning, it was doing 5500 rpm WOT and 46mph and would occasionally surge in RPMs for a brief second. Not sure what it should be running…,

O2 SENSOR SHOULDNT HAVE ANY IMPACT ON WOT
5500 RPM IS EXACTLY WHERE IT SHOULD BE
IT SHOULD NOT SURGE

10-4, I will run it this afternoon and see what happens. What benefits would I see from having a clean O2 sensor?

smoother idle
