Oakbrook boat landing

Has anyone had any luck fishing from the oak brook landing to the Ashley river? If so what all did you catch? Looking to take a kid fishing and it right by the house. Thanks.

I do not fish it much, but I do go hang out there often just enjoying the beautiful evenings and bounty of mosquitoes. I see a lot of bluegill, and the occasional catfish, out there. If you are putting in a boat there, take some worms and fish around overhanging bushes, and some chicken livers (or night crawlers) for catfish.

A little further downstream, you may luck into a redfish if you are using mud minnows.

all the catfish you want. fish the deep holes.be careful at low tide.shallow,sandbar,stump.good luck.

Thanks for the info. Meant to post in the inshore discussion forum thanks either way.

Redfish from time to time, small stripers in the cold months, catfish, bluegill, crappie…

Fresh cut mullet if you can find any - put on a mullet or pogie head, use stout rod and hold on. Catfish up to 40#'s swim around. If not, a hotdog chunks will work in a pinch.

Bring a lite rod with small jigheads and grubs, fish around the floating docks and by the water spout.

I’ve caught a billion bream and plenty of channel and blue cats there over the years. There used to be lots of submerged logs to get hung up on, so take some extra rigs.

KotP is right about the sandbars. There is one in particular heading downstream that always gets somebody. Take it slow if you do take a boat.

First big right hand turn past the power lines as you head down river. Sandbar is in the middle of the river and exposed at the bottom 1/3 of the tide. Any other time one cant tell its there. Stay way left along the banks. The right hand side is shallow as well.

Lots of tiny cats but one of my favorite places to fish inshore but you never know what you’ll catch near oakbrook I’ve caught just about every inshore species of fish and freshwater fish there including striped bass and hybrid

MY baits of choice for Cat’s is Eel or bream. Nothing better than Eel for bushlines. The fish come all night and one bait will never come off the hook!
