Friday was our first “real” trip offshore up here because it has been blowing all week keeping the mosquito fleet (all four of us ) inshore or tied to the dock. Not exactly the way I wanted to spend our week-long vacation, but we’ve still had a great time inshore fishing, gigging and boozing!
We, along with two other small boats, left the dock at 0645 and had a rough ride out in 4+ footers with nice whitecaps from the 15kt winds. We were headed to the Rock Pile, but half way out decided to try our luck closer due to the rough conditions.
We ran to the Dixie Arrow and had lines in by 0800. We had a couple good bites within the first 20-30 min. that got off . Continued to fish 85-110 feet and picked up 5 gaffers and 2 bailers. Started trolling in and found a weedline with a 2 degree temp. break but nobody was hungry by this time.
Back at the dock by 1400, fish and boat cleaned by 1500 and another great day with our good friends from NC. Only wish my wife could have been with us, but she is still recovering from her surgery nearly 4 weeks ago and it was just too rough for her this time.
