This month’s Meet and Fish will be at the Lagoon on Huntington Island. We will meet at 11:30 on Sunday the 7th at the visitor center parking lot and launch at noon on the north end of the lagoon. I have very little experience at this location but the bottom is mostly sand with oysters, grass, fallen trees, and deep pockets. This area can be great fishing for trout, flounder, and redfish. If anyone has any experience in this area please feel free to share any information. Thanks and I I will see you guys there!
Hunting Island State Park is located near the southern tip of South Carolina, midway between Charleston and Savannah, Georgia. Fripp Island is conveniently located just 38 miles from
I-95 and 16 miles from Beaufort, South Carolina.
Directions from I-95 Traveling South:
Take Exit 33 (Point South). Follow signs for Beaufort and US Highway 21. Stay on Highway 21 to Hunting Island State Park.
Directions from I-95 Traveling North:
Take Exit 8 (278 East) turn right. Follow Beaufort signs and turn left on State Road 141, just after the Auto Mall on your left. Turn left on Highway 170. Stay on 170 until you cross the Broad River Bridge. Turn right on 802, and go past Parris Island. Turn right at the second light (continuing on 802). Follow 802 over Lady’s Island Bridge. Turn right at US Highway 21. Follow to the State Park.
The Lagoon can be some great fishing, have caught several slams in the past. It’s very diverse and you never know what you might catch, have caught a few fish I had no idea what they were also. The Lagoon is about 2.5 miles long and was a sand pit for years before they opened it up to Frip inlet. Works well to fish the outgoing tide and then follow the tide back in. There are a lot of old stumps and trees and I know some people would even fish for shepshead around them. I have seen some gator trout and have had some great days fishing for trout to the point where almost every cast you land a trout.
I would love to go…But Marian, ElGeeBee, ScubaStan, SnakeGirl, and myself will be in Virginia Beach fishing Lynnhaven Bay & the Cheasapeake Bay Area for Strippers, Togs, Sheepshead, Trout, Flounder, Reds, and other things that swim. There will be 45 Kayak Anglers on this Boondoggle sponsored by http://www.yakangler.com/ and http://kayakfishingradio.com/ from Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Virginia, West Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, New Hampshire, and who knows where.
Have fun and we will be thinking of you guys when we are on this different Meet & Fish.
Justin,
I’ll be there but just want to clarify that this is for the Oct. meet and fish and not the Nov. because of the topic name and date does not line up for Nov but it does for Oct.

This is an awesome place for trout and flounder. Troll a grub everywhere you go (2 are better). About a 1/3 of the way to inlet, where it gets skinny, work the east side for flounder. I prefer a cold snap for the trout, but this year is looking like it might be early. Early morning…stay near parking area has worked for me.
Really wish I could make this trip, but already have reservations at Edisto hopefully catching something. Good luck
ElGeeBee and myself are in charge of the November Meet & Fish as Justin will be out of town. We have been discussing another Freshwater Meet & Fish at Santee State Park. Any comments about this?
