Guys: I need some guidance on how to cook an octopus. Our local Publix has lots of them and I would love to chow down on them but I have no idea as how to cook them. Any suggestions are welcome.

Guy Fireri(?) put one in a mixer with coarse salt for 20 minutes to soften him up. Then sauteed it. Maybe YouTube it?

Place the Octopus in a large pot of water, bay leaf, white wine, fresh herbs etc. Bring to a simmer and cook for approximately 15 minutes. Remove from the water and allow to cool in the fridge. I will typically remove the tentacles at this point. When ready to eat I will typically season them with salt and pepper and toss with a small amount of extra virgin olive oil and grill them. When they are hot they are ready to eat. Hope this helps.
I saw this on food net: Boil whole octopus sans beak for 1 hr in water/vinegar, transfer to grill, baste w/ butter, serve.
I’d look it up… it was Eden’s show.
Ingredients
6 to 7 pound whole octopus, cleaned
4 tablespoons fresh oregano leaves, chopped
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1/2 cup olive oil
In a large stockpot, bring water to a boil and then reduce to a simmer. Add whole octopus and 1/2 cup of white wine vinegar, and simmer for 1 hour. Remove octopus and let cool at room temperature for 15 minutes. Cut the tentacles from the head, and discard the head. Sprinkle oregano over the octopus tentacles. Grill octopus for 10 minutes, baste with melted butter, turn over and grill for an additional 10 minutes. Remove octopus from the grill and chop into small pieces. In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the lemon juice and olive oil. Place chopped octopus onto serving plates and drizzle lemon vinaigrette over the octopus.
That oughta doit. It’s a greek thing.
Octopus is good bait too. It’s tougher than squid and the rare bsb love it.

Technically you can just cut it into bite sized chunks and fry it. It has a great flavor but is chewy as heck. Which, in my case, means more for me. Family won’t mess with it. I don’t mind lol.
