I have caught plenty of both in the ocean and harbor but… I discovered a few large ponds , where tarpon and snook are. I was throwing a topwater at charleston national …WOOPS and i couldent believe it, then a snook! I have caught plenty after 40 years fishing but my biggest CN Snook … maybe 5 lbs. my largest pond poon is 29". Without a place to tire them out you need an atv winch. 9 times out of ten they take 25 bucks worth of braid a 9 dollar spook and wrap it around every tree in the pond.
But for real…Tarpon and snook everytime i fish these ponds.
Same subject kind of,
I caught a grouper under hwy 41 bridge hole, as well as a headache from those dam cars driving over my head
I have heard of people catching small tarpon in ponds on James Island somewhere…still cant confirm it though.
I used to live in Bayview Farms and we would catch small tarpon and snook in those ponds frequently when I was a teen. You didn’t hear that from me though. They would only hit larger minnow patterns near the surface on a flyrod. Use an 8 or 9 wt and be ready to fight them away from the bushes. It’s a well known tarpon pond so I’m not divulging any secret information…
Haddrell’s Point West Ashley is always my go to for that kind of fly stuff.
Care to share some of these secret holes? haha awesome find! In fl we used to have ponds and when you were bass fishing a 25lb snook would grab your bait
