Larry, I believe you are partially right. I think it is a scarlet snake as opposed to a scarlet king snake not the same.
Well, dang if I know. I do see the difference between one having the saddle markings and one having distinct round bands. It was a very friendly snake anyway, didn’t even try to bite me.
That scarlet snake in the link looks just like it.
