Off Savannah

I’ll post this here since you boys are above me.

Left the dock at 11pm on Saturday night. Drove 10 knts after clearing R2W. Dodged a tug with a barge, that my son recognized, a mile off the sea buoy. Made me glad he’s learning. Picked up the speed at daylight and made South Ledge about 7am. 10-15 boats working the ledge…dropped some cedar plugs and trolled thru…headed offshore…water temp 73-74…went to 100 fathom curve after leaving scattered weed at 300 ft. Weed at 700 ft scattered with big rafts. Picked them for hours and got 3 slingers…chicken dolphin (small) for 40 inch reds. Worked it till 1pm and said lets go home and black bass fish at MM2R6.
The weather report called for east/southeast 10knts. About 2pm. 10-20knt winds from the NORTH east…ass beater all the way home. That’s the reason I went south. The stream was bad trolling North so I stayed in the weed and didn’t go deeper.
I’d checked the Friday image and it showed the stream at the Deli:

It changed to this the next day:

I was fishing that big dead space between 75 and 80 degree water. So was everybody else. Another 10= miles and I would have found SOMETHINGG.

Since the Freeman pic is up, here’s my ride:

Some cat on the radio said he spent his house note on his fuel bill. Said he was gonna need some help…he’s right…I filled up for $700 and carried another 60($190) gallons in case…$100 for bait and $20 for ice. Rich mans sport with fuel being what it is.

What’s it cost to fill that Freeman and what is the return on the fish caught…I can guarantee, unless it’s a charter, your losing money.

I took a friend of my son that’s never seen the stream. I believe he saw things only people that go out there see:

Pretty blue water
Tin

Roughly 88 miles run(176 miles 40 inch IQ) and back to the dock at 8pm. 22 hours of hanging on a steering wheel…my hands are still cramping.

Quote “Since the Freeman pic is up, here’s my ride:”

Love it. Thank you for that.

Love the boat. If it makes you feel any better we were about 20 miles due north of you, dropped lines in at 7 am, flying fish of all sizes everywhere, weed, birds, porpoises, whenever took a STRIKE all day. Not a single hit. At one point we HST for 20 miles down the ledge, nothing. I know at least 2 other boats around us that did the same. 6 days before that we did quite well in the same area.

Nobody caught much down where we were. Did you go out to the 100 fathom curve? The break/rip looked like it was out there from Rutgers sat image . I couldn't get out of 75 in 1000+ feet. Wind kept me from trolling north and I'm glad I left at 1pm. We had the same activity where we were with porpi hanging around and tons of bait. All our slingers were cows with roe and full stomachs. I've been fishing out of here for 25+ years. The last couple have been terrible and I want to know why. I wonder how much the long liners really take? They showed up about 10-15 years ago from what I recall. I don't know what to think. The old days was late April early May for the Stream...we'll see.

Good looking Bert! Cant beleve fuel is that expensive down there, I filled my Bertram last week for 1.82 gal at the Dollar General here. Don’t like to pull her with that much aboard. Hope to get her back down to Edisto in week or two! Hope ya’ll are on fish soon. thanks for the report.

I hope you're using E-free gas. The ethanol will eat that Bert tank up like it did mine when it was an I/O. Your fuel filters will clog and the tank will delaminate over time. Your fuel prices will go up with the new tax coming. Alabama has cheap Non Ethanol gas...too bad for me over here....the furthest inland point on the east coast.

Fun report mdaddy. Thank you

Dolphin like to get their taxes done before the run up this way. Pro tip*

Did you fish with 40inchleaders?

I’ve never felt so popular. Think about me much? What kind of line did u use? I bet I know.

no so much popular as special

Mdaddy, wet thru all that 10 years ago( hell of a mess) and had a new alum. tank built and have 2 aux plastic tanks. Did that before I repowered with 5.7 EFIs. Rebuilt my rudders last week and added 45 percent more surface area

I don’t fish with anything less than a cedar plug leader. I know how to wrap a leader…and gaff at the same time…
